There are exceptions: Crystal Costa attacks Forsythe’s choreography with thrilling fierceness and appetite for risk...
— Luke Jennings The Observer
...there is a marvelously musical, gorgeously feminine buoyancy to Costa’s dancing, and a wide-eyed mobility to her pretty features, that make it very difficult to take your eyes off her.
— Mark Monahan The Telegraph

Costa...explodes like a missile out of the shadows, her ponytail like a whip, knowing exactly how to set off every explosion with her toe or the flick of a finger. Hers was great dancing, worthy of the best.
— Ismene Brown The Spectator

She brings attack and understatement and always a clear love for her art.
This is arguably the highlight of the evening ...This role alone proves Costa is not just a good dancer but also an artist. No wonder she brought the house down.
— Jeffery Taylor The Daily Express

Ballet

Born in Vancouver, Crystal Costa graduated with Honours from Canada’s National Ballet School in 2001. She joined Hong Kong Ballet that same year and was promoted to Soloist in 2003 and Principal Dancer in 2005. In 2007, Crystal joined the English National Ballet as a Soloist and was promoted to First Soloist in 2008. She has toured the world performing on stages such as the Palais Garnier in Paris, the Bolshoi Theatre in Russia and the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan in Japan. She has danced principal roles in almost all the classical ballets including The Sleeping Beauty, Nutcracker, Giselle, Swan Lake, Coppelia, Cinderella, and Theme and Variations. Other highlighted roles include Tchaikovsky Pas de deux, The Chosen One in Pina Bausch’s Rite of Spring, Giselle in Akram Khan’s Giselle, Mistress in Manon and Andrea in Forsythe’s In the Middle Somewhat Elevated. She has had roles created on her by choreographers such as Akram Khan, Aszure Barton, Derek Deane, Natalie Weir and Itzik Galili. She created the role of Nora by Stina Quagebeur for English National Ballet’s triple bill She Persisted at Sadler’s Wells. Crystal choreographed her first short work Mirror for the Hong Kong Ballet’s choreographic workshop in January 2007. In it’s inaugural year, Crystal was nominated for English National Ballet’s Emerging Dancer Award 2010 where she won The People’s Choice Award. She has also been nominated by the Critics’ Circle for the National Dance Awards 2010 for Outstanding Classical Female Performance.

Yoga

Crystal’s journey into yoga started in her early days as a young ballerina. Yoga has been a source of healing physically, emotionally and spiritually throughout her dance career. The combination of yoga and dance has been a balancing force in Crystal’s life. After a long day of rehearsals, she would crave the stillness of a yoga practice and the chance to recenter the body and mind. Crystal enjoys being able to help her students find peace from within, and to help them appreciate that yoga is not about an external pose, but everything that happens inside - and that yoga is a transformation that goes way beyond the physical practice. Crystal is a 600 hour Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) and 95 hour Children’s Yoga Teacher (RCYT). Having first trained with YogaLondon in both Foundation and Advanced level training, she has gone on to receive Advanced Teacher Training with Ambra Vallo, Restorative Yoga Teacher Training with Lucinda Beatty and Children’s Yoga Teacher Training with Bryony Duckitt. She is particularly passionate about teaching Restorative Yoga and creating slow flows which can help her students find the body and breath connection and focus on internalising each asana to find a stillness within.
